The latest weekly poll revealed that South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s approval rating remained steady at 39 percent, unchanged from the previous week’s figures.
According to the survey released on Friday, President Yoon’s approval rating has held steady amid ongoing developments, indicating a consistent level of public support for his administration’s policies and decisions.
According to a recent survey conducted by Gallup Korea, negative evaluations of President Yoon Suk-yeol’s governance increased by one percentage point to reach 54 percent. At the same time, support for his leadership remained unchanged at 39 percent. The assessment indicates a notable decline in approval for the ruling conservative People Power Party, which dropped by 3 percentage points to 37 percent this week.
Furthermore, the survey suggests a decrease in popularity for the main liberal opposition Democratic Party, with its rating declining by 2 percentage points to 31 percent.
The findings also anticipate a widening gap between the ruling People Power Party (PPP) and the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) in the upcoming parliamentary elections, with the PPP projected to secure 33 percent of the vote compared to the DP’s 26 percent, according to respondents surveyed across the country.
The survey of 1,000 voters conducted from Tuesday to Thursday revealed varying levels of support for minor political parties in South Korea, with the center-left Korea Innovation Party garnering 6 percent approval and the center-right Reform Party securing 3 percent.
The survey, conducted with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points and a 95 percent confidence level, showcased a decline in approval ratings for both the ruling People Power Party (PPP) and the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) compared to the previous week’s findings.
President Yoon Suk-yeol’s performance received a positive assessment from 39 percent of respondents, marking an increase from the previous month’s survey. However, negative evaluations decreased by 3 percentage points to 56 percent. Notably, respondents in their 70s expressed the highest level of positive assessment for Yoon, while those in their 50s showed an increase in approval, jumping from 29 percent to 39 percent. Regionally, residents of Busan and Ulsan exhibited the most substantial increase in positive evaluation, reaching 54 percent. The survey also indicated that the PPP maintained a lead over the DP by 7 percentage points, while support for minor parties remained relatively low.
