On Friday morning, local police apprehended a 65-year-old man suspected of murdering his former girlfriend and her daughter. Using surveillance footage, authorities at Bangbae Police Station swiftly located and detained the suspect.
The arrest took place around 7:45 a.m. near Namtaeryeong Station in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu. This development comes in response to the tragic events of the previous night when a woman in her 50s and her daughter in her 30s were allegedly killed, as confirmed by the Seoul Suseo Police Station.
The suspect allegedly stabbed the woman and her daughter to death at a commercial-residential complex in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, around 7 p.m. Thursday. Following the incident, he went into hiding, prompting a widespread hunt for the accused involving multiple police stations in the southern part of the capital.
According to Article 200 of the Criminal Act, which allows law enforcement officers to detain suspects without a warrant if there is probable cause to believe they have committed a crime punishable by at least three years in prison, the suspect was detained without formal authorization.
Park, the suspect, is believed to have been acquainted with the elder woman, as per statements from the police station, which is now contemplating requesting an arrest warrant for him.
Investigators have discovered that the suspect and the woman had been involved in a romantic relationship, which she had recently terminated. Further inquiry is underway to ascertain the precise motive behind the crime and the manner in which it was carried out.
The Seoul Suseo Police Station in Gangnam-gu, responsible for overseeing the case, intends to interrogate both the suspect and the grieving family members of the victims. Additionally, the station is considering the possibility of requesting an arrest warrant, as per legal requirements to detain the suspect for more than 48 hours following apprehension.
